Paddock Road Student Council assembled May Day baskets last week.   Seven Student Council members: Destinee Rosemond, Anna Carrig, Christain Madsen, Casey Brattain, Lauren Kruger, Kelsi Staehlin and Virginia Jansen, helped deliver these May Day baskets to the Rainbow House on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.  The students also received a tour of the Rainbow House.  The Carolyn Scott Rainbow House is open to anyone who has family receiving treatment at the Children's Hospital and Medical Center.  Created to be a home-away-from home, the Rainbow House is a free place for families who live 60 miles or more outside of Omaha to sleep, eat, do laundry and more.  The May Day baskets were delivered and hopefully will bring joy to everyone spending the May Day at the Rainbow House.

Paddock Road celebrated Earth Day with a whole week of Student Council events encouraging students to appreciate the earth around them. Earth Week ended with the planting of a Colorado Blue Spruce purchased by Student Council for Paddock.  With the help of Tony, a representative from Earl May, and Mike, our wonderful engineer, Student Council representatives dug a hole and planted the tree.  It is officially name Bruce the Spruce!

Meet the recipients of the 3rd quarter Panda Pride awards!  These students demonstrated the
Three B's--be safe, be respectful, and be responsible in their classrooms.
Last February, Kelli Urbach, TLC paraprofessional at Paddock, found out she had tested positive for
Lynch Syndrome.  Lynch Syndrome is a hereditary condition and exposes families to an extremely
high risk of contracting a litany of very aggressive cancers, often occurring at a younger age than
average.  After discovering there was no support group for this condition, she wrote a proclamation that
Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman signed making March 22nd the Nebraska "Day of Awareness".  Shown
above are Kelli and her family with the Governor.

Congratulations to all the participants of the District Elementary Speech Contest.  The theme for the contest was “The Individual in History:  Going Beyond the Extra Mile”. Sarah Harrison from Sunset Hills took third place for her speech on Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States. Second place went to Caroline Leibel from Rockbrook who delivered a speech on Phil Knight, the co-founder and chairman of Nike. First place went to DeKyah Rosemond from Paddock Road. Her speech focused on Harriet Tubman, an abolitionist, humanitarian, and an instrumental part of the Underground Railroad. The top three winners will present their speeches at a Kiwanis luncheon in April.

The 2nd quarter Panda Pride awards were given on Wednesday, January 11th.  Teachers looked for students
in each of their classrooms that demonstrated the Three B's--be safe, be respectful, and be responsible.
The students pictured here are a big part of what makes Paddock Road such a wonderful place to be!
